UPDATED: Online gambling bill remains on Governor Christie's desk

Governor Christie was asked today about what his decision is about the online gaming bill on his desk, which is due tomorrow.

?Haven?t made it yet,? Christie told my colleague Melissa Hayes and other reporters. ?My due date is tomorrow. My homework is due tomorrow. I?ll turn it in tomorrow. I was never a guy who turned in my homework early, so I?ll turn in my homework tomorrow.?

?I have thoughts for and thoughts against that,? Christie added. ?I have to reconcile those, and I will before I turn my homework in. I won?t do it before then.?

The governor has a function in Atlantic City tonight. If he was going to sign the bill, that might have seemed like a good place and time to announce it. On the other hand, the event has nothing to do with gambling ? it?s agriculture-related.

Another note: While the deadline to sign is noon, Christie tends to release announcements of veto/sign decisions in bunches, and he tends to do so late in the workday. So this drama could go right to the wire.

Meanwhile, Michael Frawley, chief executive of the Atlantic Club, has stepped forward to offer his advice for Christie: sign the bill.

Frawley tells the Associated Press that the expected addition of high-tech, high-paying jobs from implementation of online gaming means that the bill is ?much more than just someone sitting in their living room with a computer.?

The Atlantic Club happens to be the casino that may be on the verge of being bought by Rational Group, parent company of online poker sites PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. As the article notes, it?s not clear if that bid will remain on the table should Christie veto the online poker bill.

Also, Parry Aftab ? an attorney and founder of the Wired Safety group, is backing the online gaming bill in spite of initial reservations that were similar to Christie?s in terms of concerns about children getting involved in gambling due to legalization.

Airshow: Boeing defense contracts unaffected by India budget cuts - executive

BANGALORE (Reuters)- Boeing Co's contract talks with India for military helicopters will be unaffected by planned budget cuts, an executive said on Thursday, a day after the country's defense minister said spending on arms would be tightened.

India, the world's biggest arms importer in recent years as it looks to upgrade its mostly Soviet-era military hardware, is cutting defense spending as part of a wider push by New Delhi to rein in its fiscal deficit.

"There is nothing that will lead me to believe there will be any delays," said Dennis Swanson, vice president, international business development at Boeing's Defence, Space and Security Division.

"India is one of our biggest growth markets. We are certainly aware of (the budget cuts). We are not changing anything that we are doing," Swanson told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of an air show in the Indian city of Bangalore.

Boeing is in exclusive talks to sell 22 of its Apache combat helicopters and 15 Chinook heavy lift helicopters to India. Swanson declined to comment on the deal value when asked by Reuters.

India agreed in 2011 to buy 10 C-17 military cargo planes from Boeing in a $4.1 billion deal, but overlooked the U.S. company in favor of France's Dassault Aviation for a highly sought-after $10 billion fighter jet contract.

"We do see additional opportunities for C-17s," Swanson added, without providing details.

The U.S. company's civil aviation division is in talks to sell its 737-MAX aircraft to Indian carriers Jet Airways , SpiceJet and Air India , another executive told Reuters in a separate interview.

"737 has been the mainstay of domestic aviation in India ... All these airplanes will be replaced some day and the replacement for that is MAX," Dinesh Keskar, Boeing's vice-president for sales in Asia Pacific said. "We are in conversations with the airlines here."

State-run passenger carrier Air India was the world's fifth airline to take delivery of Boeing's Dreamliner jet, and has ordered 27 in total.

The manufacturer will address compensation issues over the grounded Dreamliners after the troubled aircraft take to the skies again, Keskar said.

Mophie ships Juice Pack Helium, gives iPhone 5 a shot in the arm

Although Mophie isn't the first to have an iPhone 5 battery case, there's no doubt that some have been waiting for the company's take -- and it might justify the patience. The just-launched Juice Pack Helium slides a 1,500mAh secondary battery on to the back of Apple's flagship in a protective frame that's 13 percent thinner than earlier Mophie cases, but still promises a hefty amount of extra runtime. Mophie estimates another six hours of cellular calling and data (seven on WiFi), or about enough to push through an all-nighter or a long airport layover. Color-coordinating black and silver versions of the Helium are shipping from the 14th onwards for about $80. That's lot for something so model-specific, but it's possibly the sleekest way to extend an iPhone 5's charge.

[Thanks, Nik]

Researchers at the University of Granada have designed a set of biomarkers that can be used in diagnostic tests for the detection of dengue and the West Nile virus, two infectious diseases transmitted by the bite of a mosquito. These biomarkers can be used to identify these viral diseases, which affect millions of people worldwide.

The University of Granada spin-off Rekom Biotech is a biotech company composed of professionals from the private sector and from the University of Granada. Rekom Biotech is focused in the design and production of biological material used in diagnostic tests called "recombinant antigents". These antigens are markers of a variety of diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.

Saving Lives and Money

These products can be used in the different in vitro diagnostic platforms or systems. Specifically, the biomarkers designed at the University of Granada spin off "might serve to design diagnostic tests that will help save lives and money", states the Rekom Biotech general manager, Ana Camacho Pez.

The Andalusian company also supplies other services based on the design and production of proteins and other molecular biology tools.

Currently, Rekom Biotech supplies white label recombinant antigens to two American companies, and will start supplying biological material to a German company soon. Their catalogue includes more than 50 recombinant antigens for the in vitro diagnosis of a range of infectious diseases. This company conducts its R&D activities at the Health Technology Park in Granada, Spain.

HuffPost Tastemakers: The Best Ever Airport Lunch

TASTEMAKERS -- Richard Blais has been a bit of a jet-setter lately, tweeting more on travel tips than food. But then, just today, he gave us a peak of how he eats while he travels. We took a sigh of relief knowing that he wasn't succumbing to Pizza Uno and Subway. Richard Blais, we should have known you'd be eating in style. Beef brisket from Salt Lick and a juniper berry soda is making our lunch look pretty sad.
