Abbas sees Palestinian unity as Fatah rallies in Gaza

GAZA (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Abbas predicted the end of a five-year split between the two big Palestinian factions as his Fatah movement staged its first mass rally in Gaza with the blessing of Hamas Islamists who rule the enclave.

"Soon we will regain our unity," Abbas, whose authority has been limited to the Israeli-occupied West Bank since the 2007 civil war between the two factions, said in a televised address to hundreds of thousands of followers marching in Gaza on Friday, with yellow Fatah flags instead of the green of Hamas.

The hardline Hamas movement, which does not recognize Israel's right to exist, expelled secular Fatah from Gaza during the war. It gave permission for the rally after the deadlock in peace talks between Abbas's administration and Israel narrowed the two factions' ideological differences.

The Palestinian rivals have drawn closer since Israel's assault on Gaza assault in November, in which Hamas, though battered, claimed victory.

Egypt has long tried to broker Hamas-Fatah reconciliation, but past efforts have foundered over questions of power-sharing, control of weaponry, and to what extent Israel and other powers would accept a Palestinian administration including Hamas.

An Egyptian official told Reuters Cairo was preparing to invite the factions for new negotiations within two weeks.

Israel fears grassroots support for Hamas could eventually topple Abbas's Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank.

"Hamas could seize control of the PA any day," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday.

The demonstration marked 48 years since Fatah's founding as the spearhead of the Palestinians' fight against Israel. Its longtime leader Yasser Arafat signed an interim 1993 peace accord that won Palestinians a measure of self rule.

Hamas, which rejected the 1993 deal, fought and won a Palestinian parliamentary election in 2006. It formed an uneasy coalition with Fatah until their violent split a year later.

Though shunned by the West, Hamas feels bolstered by electoral gains for Islamist movements in neighboring Egypt and elsewhere in the region - a confidence reflected in the fact Friday's Fatah demonstration was allowed to take place.

"The success of the rally is a success for Fatah, and for Hamas too," said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri. "The positive atmosphere is a step on the way to regain national unity."

Fatah, meanwhile, has been riven by dissent about the credibility of Abbas's statesmanship, especially given Israel's continued settlement-building on West Bank land. The Israelis quit Gaza unilaterally in 2005 after 38 years of occupation.

"The message today is that Fatah cannot be wiped out," said Amal Hamad, a member of the group's ruling body, referring to the demonstration attended by several Abbas advisers. "Fatah lives, no one can exclude it and it seeks to end the division."

In his speech, Abbas promised to return to Gaza soon and said Palestinian unification would be "a step on the way to ending the (Israeli) occupation".

2. Master a financially valued skill that our North American society is willing to pay you well for. Pursue a passion that can generate consistent financial rewards for you down the road. Strive to be good at what you do. This will also build your confidence over time.

3. Early on establish the work ethic of arriving early, working harder than your colleagues, working smarter and letting decision-makers know. Many of the self-made millionaires I?ve talked to worked 50 to 60 hours per week for several years before reaching a point of being financially free.

4. Live modestly. I?ve been told that the cost of your house determines the cost of your lifestyle and thus impacts on your ability to create wealth. By living within your means and being moderate in your spending you increase your chances of reaching a point of being financially free.

5. Be extraordinary in your saving. Keep reminding yourself that when you buy a depreciating asset such as a car, TV, or camper you are becoming poorer. Get into the habit of paying yourself first rather than budget and pay others first. With your savings either invest in your on-going education, a systematized business that you are creating or in investment vehicles such as stocks and real estate.

6. Keep track of your money. Get into the habit of monitoring your cash flow. As well, on a quarterly basis calculate your net worth. In doing so, you are able to see what the fruits of your labor have produced thereby motivating you to keep up the great work.

7. Have multiple streams of income; one of which you are able to do extremely well. Learn to quickly convert your earned active income into passive income by investing in the stock market, rental real estate or systematized businesses where your presence is not necessary in order for you to make money.

Focus your attention on investing in opportunities that generate cash flow. With cash flowing into your bank account from multiple sources every month you will reach a point of being financially free as soon as your monthly expenses are covered by your passive income streams.

The most important lesson that I have taken away from all of this advice is to believe in yourself and your capabilities. Have the resolve to strive to make a difference in the lives of others and your life will be richly blessed in return.

As a parting thought, all of the self-made millionaires that I have had the privilege of chatting with have re-iterated the same words of advice: ?Find a financially valued skill that you are passionate about and then pursue that passion with enthusiasm and purpose.?

Just when you think you have discovered every bit of Los Angeles, it surprises you. I found Chay and her lovely home through a friend, and when she sent along photos of her space I couldn't believe she lived in Los Angeles (the view definitely looked like Ojai). What is even more special is that, upon entering the home, you see design influences from around the world.

I think Chay's house is pretty cool, but her lifestyle is also very family oriented. She and her husband purchased the home from another couple who spent 20 years raising their kids in the house, and they plan to do the same. There is a small guest house on the property that they have turned into a school classroom to homeschool their two daughters. Currently the daughters share the upstairs bedroom with the amazing view of Hollywood, but once Chay and her husband do the last of the renovation that will all change, and the room will be converted back to the master bedroom.

Iran says talks with big powers to be held in January

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Iran has agreed to hold talks with six major powers about its atomic program in January but the date and venue has yet to be decided, the country's top nuclear negotiator said on Friday.

The six powers want to rein in Iran's uranium enrichment program to ensure it is geared only for civilian energy, through a mix of diplomacy and sanctions. Iran denies Western assertions it is seeking nuclear weapons capability.

"We have accepted that these talks should be held in January, but until now, the details have not been finalized," Jalili said through a translator during a trip to India.

The six powers - the United States, Russia, France, Britain, Germany and China - have failed to achieve a breakthrough in three rounds of talks since April. But neither side has been willing to break off totally, partly because of concern this could lead to war if Israel attacked its arch-foe.

The powers last met Iran for talks in Moscow. That meeting was followed by low-level technical talks in Istanbul.

Jalili is the second member of Iran's nuclear team to visit India in the past month. He said he welcomed the two countries' strong ties but said India had no particular role in getting nuclear talks restarted.
